Top, Sports Bra & Leggings all Sweaty Betty. Trainers by Adidas at ASOS
Exercise is an expensive game, especially if you live in an expensive city like London, where you might find yourself handing over £22 to spend an hour slogging your guts out on a stationary bicycle as a trance/mashup of Ellie Goulding’s latest single pumps out the speakers. This, all whilst being shouted at by a hyper American…
If you’re like me and struggle to find the enthusiasm/willpower to get your butt to exercise solo and need a coach to be chivvying you on then group exercise is probably for you. Having said that, the cool and super-chic new workout classes usually come with a hefty price tag. £15 for a Barrecore class you say? You know I can get 2 burgers and fries at Five Guys for that sort of cash… I’ll take the burger(s) any day! You can see why this logic may be a problem.
However, there is plenty of opportunities to enjoy these popular and cool exercise classes without spending a penny, you just need to know where to find them and what time to set your alarm for.
1. Sweaty Betty Workout Club
I kind of loathe to let you in on the (not so secret anymore) Sweaty Betty Workout Club. These guys have been hosting FREE designer work out classes all across the UK, 7 days a week for 2 years now! This was pretty much the only way I exercised at all last year. They have everything from Barrecore, PowerYoga, Bootcamp and Run Club when the weather is nicer. Sweaty Betty also partners up with new workout clubs and give taster classes for free. I did Rebel1 Boxing the other month and it was fantastic! The class schedule can be seen here.
2. Nike Women’s Training Club
My other workout freebie is Nike’s Women Training Club. I do an inspiring and fun bootcamp at my local park most Sundays (hangover depending) with Hattie, who is an incredible trainer and makes the most gruelling butt-toning moves a laugh. This session can be hardcore and results are seen quickly. Nike do a whole programme of different workouts across the city, daily and at different locations. Head here for the full schedule and how to sign up.
3. Project Awesome
For all you early birds out there who want to squeeze in a workout before you brain and body even knows what you’re putting it through Project Awesome might be for you. Quoting itself as “the friendliest workout in London”, PA is a FREE fitness movement that meets twice a month to take a group of all ages, shapes and sizes through a motivating, badass workout. There will be high fives and maybe (sweaty?) hugs but definitely oodles of positive vibes. Details of the next meet and how you can sign up is here.
4. Online Workouts
Can’t be assed to leave the house? Yeah, I’ve got a solution for that too. The internet is a gold mine of stay at home workout sessions allowing you to get in a workout without even leaving your room. My fav youtube channel is PopSugarFitness which has everything from Beyonce Dance Inspired Workouts to Victoria’s Secret Body Sculpting. They also have 10, 20, 30 & 40 minute workout videos so you can fit in some fitness depending on how much time you have to spare. LOVE IT.
