The wise and intellectual novelist Gertrude Stein may have declared “A rose is a rose is a rose,” but right now Rose scents are having a MAJOR moment of reinvention.
What’s so magical about this classic, floral fragrance is that it can be reworked to become anything from sweet and heady to modern and metallic smelling. Read on for my top 3 takes on the most immortal scent of them all.
Rose Silence by Miller Harris – For the Intimist
In the top spot is Miller Harris’ take on Rose. It’s the 3rd rose blend in the MH catalogue but this one takes a new and surprising turn.
Picture an early awakening in your bedroom on a cool summers morn. You flip the pillow, as the cool side touches your cheek you inhale the intimate and familiar scent of your own space, fresh bedding mixed with the sweet morning sunshine and an embrace from the one you share your bed with. Rose Silence is about the me-you-us moments.
The petals of young roses are used to recreate fresh air making it thrilling and awakening yet stirring and magical also. On the skin it smells personal. There is a hint of metallic. I have always wanted to own a Miller Harris scent because of the thoughtfulness and intelligence they portray. Rose Silence is a dream made into reality.

Jurlique Essence of Rose – For Naturalist
This 100 percent natural fragrance and most affordable in this feature Essence of Rose captures Jurlique’s signature rose scent found in the skincare products. 10,000 hand picked Turkish and Moroccan rose petals are used to retain a purity of scent in the essential oils, giving the perfume oil a sweet opening and then a more earthy, warming and velvety smell later on.
The formula also contains Shea butter to soften skin and encourage massage into pulse points for an aromatherapy experience. Ingredients are organic and the slim, glass roller ball vial makes it perfect for travel and top ups. Classic Rose for on-the-go.

Rose de Vigne by Caudalie – For a First Romance
A classic rose fragrance is the archetype of femininity. At first smell Rose de Vigne takes me back to when I used to wear Stella in Two Peony perfume when I was 18. The sweet black current/citrus-y scent gives off sweet overtones and is used to recreate grape (which is impossible to extract). There is musk and amber to add depth and longevity and the pink peppercorn adds a kick to the fragrance but over all this is a super FRESH and uplifting Rose scent.
I feel refreshed spritzing Rose de Vigne. Definitely a day time scent, the sweet smell lingers on the skin and clothes for a while. I am enjoying wearing this scent on bright and sunny days with dresses as it reminds me of the year I first fell in love; everything was new and exciting, a time when I most definitely saw the world through my rose tinted spectacles.
